A focused, teacher-led GCSE Science lesson covering the foundations of atomic structure, including atoms, elements and compounds, the arrangement and properties of subatomic particles and the development of the atomic model. Students will explore how experimental evidence led scientists from the solid-sphere and plum pudding models to the modern nuclear model, with particular focus on Rutherford’s alpha-scattering experiment.
Students will learn to describe the structure of an atom, recall the relative charges and masses of protons, neutrons and electrons, explain why atoms have no overall electrical charge and use experimental observations to explain why accepted scientific models change.
This is a single live online lesson for GCSE Science students studying AQA Higher Tier, suitable for both Combined Science and Triple/Separate Biology.
The lesson is taught live on Zoom Webinar. Cameras and microphones are off, so there's no pressure to be on screen, but students can use the chat throughout to answer questions, ask for help and get involved.
