A focused, teacher-led GCSE Science lesson developing students’ understanding of atomic structure, including atomic number, mass number, isotopes and electronic structure. Students will calculate the numbers of protons, neutrons and electrons in atoms, interpret standard nuclear notation and calculate relative atomic mass using isotope abundances.
Students will also learn how electrons are arranged in energy levels around the nucleus and practise drawing and interpreting the electronic structures of the first 20 elements. The lesson will build the essential foundations needed to explain the arrangement of the periodic table and the chemical behaviour of different elements.
This is a single live online lesson for GCSE Science students studying AQA Higher Tier, suitable for both Combined Science and Triple/Separate Biology.
The lesson is taught live on Zoom Webinar. Cameras and microphones are off, so there's no pressure to be on screen, but students can use the chat throughout to answer questions, ask for help and get involved.
